First 100 Days

Good morning,

This weekend I heard a sermon by our Pastor,Allen Jackson where he laid out the 100 days of Faith.
This year has been different than any other year.  More of an awareness and eye opening to what lies ahead.  Our pastor came out with 10 points for the new year and these points hit me right over the head.  We all start off the year wanting to make changes that would require us to alter the way we do things and if you are anything like me changes are painful.  When you make those resolutions to start the new year off you make unrealistic resolutions.  It might start off like: I want to loose 30 pounds, or I want to give up drinking caffeine or cut back on sugar...How about making it more obtainable lets say, "I want to loose 5 pounds a month, that is more realistic and you have a better chance to change your diet to loose 5 pounds a month.  Or, I am only having 2 cups of coffee a day for the first month and once you accomplish that task you feel as though you can give it up for good.  Well, we are 8 days into the new year and how are those resolutions going???

Let's take a minute and see what the "100 Days of Faith" looks like and see where we fit in and where we need to change.  Remember take the time and reflect on your spiritual life and see if God is telling you there needs to be a change in your life.

Pastor Allen titled this point in his sermon: "My Intent" I look at this as a life change. When you make a resolution you are really saying..."I hope to change." Now lets look at My Intent and see where I really need to change with the help of the Holy Spirit.

As I have said many times...everyone can hear the same sermon and get something totally different out of the sermon, and that is what I have done here.  I have taken the weekend sermon and put my take away from the sermon.  I encourage you to get the CD From World Outreach Church and listen for yourself.

My Intent:
1. I intend to read through my Bible this year!  Make a point to set 15 minutes (maybe 20) a day and read your Bible.  Garb a friend and ask them to read with you and take the time to share one point you got out of the daily reading.  (check out World Outreach Church on their home page go to Bible Reading)

2.  I intend to pray daily. This is an easy one.  Take time to talk to God! Colossians 4:2 says "Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful."  Talk to God as though he is right there with you having that  cup of coffee or sitting in the living room right with you.  If you need help learning to pray start off with the Prayer Jesus taught us to pray,  Matthew 6: 9-13

3.  I intend to honor God in my home.  Joshua 24:15  I want God to be welcomed in my home...if you are watching TV ask the question...Would I watch this show if Jesus was coming over to have a Movie Night...if your answer is No well you have your answer.  I want my home to be a place where you feel the presence of the Lord.

4.  I intend to work with integrity.  When you mention that 4 letter word...WORK...people get very defensive when you talk about their work ethics they are ready to tell you how hard they work.  We all work hard to a certain extent but when you see what the Word of God says about work...well we all need to be more alert to how we actually work day in and day out.  Colossians 3:23

5.  I intend to teach my children to respect God and His people.  Respect! That word means a lot.  Today there is such a lack of respect between young people and adults.  What has happened to "Yes Sir, Yes ma'am or even Thank you?  Respect must be taught and that is the responsibility of the parents.  Deuteronomy 6:6-7

6.  I intend to faithfully participate in church.  Be a part of your church, speak well of your church, be a part of the different ministries of your church, we are all one body!

7.  I intend to cooperate with the Holy Spirit --- recognizing my body as the temple of the Holy Spirit.
I Corinthians 6:19-20 once you become a Christ follower you no longer do things for yourself but for the Lord.

8.  I intend to tithe.  Support your church with your tithes and offerings.  I can remember as a child that I would tithe it has always been a part of my life.  Proverbs 3:9

9.  I intend to grow--in my faith and God's involvement in my life.  We all want to grow, it shows maturity, it shows that we no longer do childish things.  We long for the day to say we are a GROWNUP!  1 Peter 2:2-3

10.  I intend to say "yes" to Godliness and "no" to ungodliness.  From the time you first give your heart to the Lord you want to do things to please Him.  Take the time to re-evaluate your life are you holding on to things that you do not want to let go and let GOD.  Let's say Yes to the Lord.

This is what I got out of this weeks sermon, listen to it for yourself and see what you get out of it.
NO EXCUSES!!! That is my motivation for the year!

Filling Your Tank To Live A Full-Filled Life!

Well, maybe if I do the blog on the same day I attend the event will help me apply what I heard even more than going over my notes months later.  I was encouraged to see so many of my friends at this events.  I have been attending these events for just about 2 years.  So many of the people who come to these events are from all walks of life and all businesses, I mean there are homemakers, (like myself), business owners, I know I have met landscapers, electricians, real estate agents, bank employees, loan agents...see it does not matter what your profession is you will be able to come and apply it to your life.  I enjoy attending these events for several reasons.  I not only get something out of the topics to apply to my life but as a homemaker I feel connected to the professional world.

I will start this off by telling you some of the jobs that I have held in my life and as I look back I can see how God has prepared me each step of the way to each job I had.  I got married young, I was 19 and my husband was 25, he had a wonderful job at UPS and I was trying to adapt to being married and I was encouraged by my husband to get a job. (He worked nights 10 pm-6 am so I slept all night and was ready to talk and fill my day with activities and wanted my husband to hang out with me, all he wanted to do was go to bed. Go figure!!! ) So, we were married in May and I started my first real job, 9-5 in September working for an Attorney!  That was such a learning experience, I was young, working in an office where I knew no one...I could have used some of Don Day's knowledge back then.  I worked for the same attorney off and on for 10 years I really enjoyed the work that I did and even now could tell you stories of cases I witnessed.  After that I worked for a medical office for 3 years in the referral department.  I also, enjoyed working there, I enjoy the contact with other people, being a part of the final outcome of a situation is what I love.  From there I taught at a private school, 2 years as a volunteer and the last year there as a paid employee.  If was still that interaction with others that I loved. My last job before moving to TN was working at a Retirement Community with their very own Emergency Medical Department.  I enjoyed the medical part and the hands on with the residents.  Now that you know a little about myself you can see that I am a people person.

Today's Super Friday was "Filling Your Tank To Live A Full-Filled Life!
I guess this topic is what made me think of the jobs I have had in the past.  Looking back to see what I was filling my tank with...what kind of people were there to fill my tank?
"People expect the most out of you for the least amount of pain to them, ($ - Time - inconvenience) they want more for less!  You can't provide peak performance on an empty tank. Don Day Speaks

Today the one thing that really made me think was the statement: "Take a renewal break at least every 90 minutes." Take 15 minutes to clear your head and when you come back from your 15 minute break write down everything on your mind.  I know when the girls were smaller it was hard enough to take a break and go to the bathroom let alone spend 15 minutes every 90 minutes to renew my focus.  So, looking back to when I was a full-time homemaker, stay at home mom, and home-school teacher there was maybe 15 minutes that whole day that I had for myself.  Those were the years of not having my tank full and I felt as though there were many holes in my tank where my fuel was disappearing.  But I made it through, with God's help and surrounding myself with encouraging people who would remind me I could make it. I started that "one step at a time" we heard about today.  That is the real key, 1 step at a time once you learn that key principle you will get through it.  There was another thing I wish I had learned at an earlier age in my life and that is "Don't compare--Don't look at other people's successes and be envious." Boy I wasted a lot of years looking at other's successes thinking I wish I had that position at work or look at that person they have it all!  I can now say that I have been truly blessed by God, He has given me a wonderful family, great friends and has put us in a wonderful town and state where I feel encouraged everyday.  There were many years I did not have that encouragement and I am sure people did not find me encouraging but over the past 10 years I have felt love and encouragement like never before.  My tank is more than 1/2 full.

As you can tell Super Friday hit home again...it made me think about a lot, I need to the Word of God to Speak Life into Myself! "No more negative self-talk. Also, get rid of the negative People around you.  Finally, remove yourself from a toxic, negative environment."

Start off the New Year right! Get into the word, fill your tank with the correct octane of gas...the higher the octane the better the performance.  The more you focus on God and fill your tank with those people who will encourage you the better you will be at encouraging others.

A Year of Learning

2017 a Year of Learning.

Good afternoon everyone,
At the end of 2016 I made a commitment to attend all the monthly events held by our friend Don Day,
www.dondaySpeaks.com . It has been a year of learning.  I have taken the time to read over my notes and I thought it was time to post what I felt I have learned each month.  I have to be honest and say I spent some time posting about this earlier today to try to publish it and have it disappear. So this is my 2nd take and I pray that the 2nd time through is what God wants me to say.  I encourage you all to take the time to check out his web site along with his FB page, Dondayspeaks, you will be able to keep up when all his speaking events will be and hope to see you at one of them this coming year.

I thought it would be nice to post all the topics that were discussed at his Super Tuesday/(now) Super Friday events.  I will give you the title of each topic and my take away on each of them.  Remember that we can all hear the same message and take away a different perspective of what was said.  2017 ended with a topic on No Excuses so I have taken that subject to heart. There is no real good excuse...I will attempt to start out 2018 with no excuses.

Here are a few topics and my take away on each topic:

WOW! Have you ever used an excuse?  I know I have. This is the last topic that Don had in December and man this topic has hit me hard.  When I can't think of why I did not get something done I have an excuse.  Well, I am striving not to have anymore excuses.  "I will not take and I will not make any excuses..."

2016 A Year to Remember!!!

It has been a long tine since I have posted and to tell you the truth I have felt that this was the right time to post.  2016 was a year that God provided beyond belief.  My two youngest daughters...Morgan and Savannah went on their first Airplane ride and boy it was an adventure! The girls worked hard for a year and a half to raise the money to go to Israel with our church.  God provided many job opportunities for them to raise the money to go.  The girls babysat, dog sat, cleaned houses, worked at church, was a hostess at several home events for members of our church. They had to raise $5,000 plus money for food and expenses while they were gone.  God really provided and it was unbelievable the experiences they had.
When people ask if I know God supplies my needs I tell them I know He does?  I watched as the girls worked hard to raise the money along with the way God provided through many friends money each and every month.  They saved their birthday money, Christmas money and every chance they had were rolling their coins to add to their savings.  God provided when I did not know how that would happen.

This year my oldest daughter, Erin and her husband had a baby boy born in September.  Erin's oldest son Luke is 8 and Ethan is almost 4 months.  Our family is growing.  Erin and Bruce have 4 wonderful children, 3 boys and 1 girl.  Heather, my 2nd oldest and her husband Eric have two great children also.  We have 6 grandchildren and we are a very blessed family.

Morgan has been working at a local restaurant, "Peter D's" since August and she really enjoys working there. She also plays keyboard for the College Praise and Worship band and has had opportunities to travel with the band and they are in the process of record their first CD.  Savannah has been working as a nanny and has started volunteering at church with the JV Infinity Worship Leader and she really enjoys doing that.

I will end this here and pick up later this week with what is happening now in our family!

I'm in a Relationship!

Don't you just love reading everyone's post on Social Media? I especially like reading about the places my friends have been, their pictures of their family and even events that will be taking place in their lives.  Social Media is a great way to keep in contact with your family and friends. Those pictures of your childhood friend and now their children, where people are working and who is getting married or having a baby. I can remember a time where you would find out about family and friends through a letter. Yes, A Letter! No I am not that old but 35+ years ago I was still writing letters and waiting for that letter to arrive from my friends and family. Be honest, you still do like getting some good news in the mail rather than bills all the time.

Well, I guess you are wondering where the title of his blog post is coming from? I will tell you, as much as I love catching up with family and friends on Social Media, I have to say that when it pops up, "So and So has changed their relationship status", I just sit and shake my head. I must be getting old, you were either single, married, divorced, widow or widower, Not In a Relationship! What are you saying, really saying? Do you feel you can not be a complete person unless you are In A Relationship? A true relationship begins when you become a Christian. When you use that word relationship your are saying this person knows all about me. My ups, downs, failures, disappointments and even hidden secrets. The one person who knows all about you from the time you were formed in your mother's womb, is God our father. Psalm 139:13-14 take a minute and examine your life and see who you are really in a relationship with, God or man. I would rather say that my relationship status is built on The Lord Jesus Christ who gave his life for me so that I could have eternal life. So next time some one ask what is your relationship status answer boldly, I am dedicated to The Lord Jesus Christ, he hung on the cross for me and gave his life for me. So as for me, I am married to a wonderful man who pits his trust in The Lord and leads our family into a relationship with Christ our Savior.

2014 Trusting in God for Wisdom, Power and Strength

It is hard to believe that 2014 is here, I can remember moving to TN thinking how we would survive 1 year let alone almost 7 years this May. In the past 6 years we have settled in quite well. We have found a great church and have grown so much. We have learned how to make prayer and Bible reading a very important part of our lives. We have learned how to trust God for his provision, protection and guidance.

2013 has been a very trying year.
I took the step and filled out a resume and actually went on a job interview. I had not worked since 2007 (in an office setting), I have spent most of my time homeschooling the girls and baby sitting but thought I would try my hand at a job interview and maybe getting a job.  I really thought that was the time for me to go back to work but it was not God's time.  For this reason I am still plugging along doing what I know how to do best...being a mom, teacher and sitter.  God has bless me with some wonderful children to watch, these children are part of our family in our hearts.  I do not have them full time so I am able to homeschool the girls, craft and attend different Bible Studies when time allows.  Morgan is working part-time at the church in the Nursery Department along with her baby-sitting responsibilities.  Savannah has branched out and is starting to babysit for a few families.  It seems that the Hawes Girls have baby-sitting in their blood.  Even our two oldest daughters were babysitters and full-time nannies at some point in their lives.  We have always had babies around and have enjoyed every minute.  Glenn and I are still hosting a small group at our church and have met some wonderful people in the last year.  God has blessed us with so many wonder friends that we know have us in their prayers.

In October 2013 Glenn had an accident at work that caused his shoulder to be dislocated and a torn labrum.  We later found out that he had torn his rotator cuff.  He was scheduled for surgery in early December but due to infection was unable to have surgery.  He was able to have surgery 2 days after Christmas to find out that they were unable to repair his rotator cuff and they had to cut his bicep muscle to that it did not stretch and cause more pain.  Glenn has been out of work since early December and we know God has a purpose and reason for all this.  Praying that our visit in late January 2014 will give us a better perspective as to what the Doctors feel the next step will be.  Trusting God for his perfect will concerning this matter and believing for healing to take place.

We are looking forward to see what 2014 will hold for us.  The girls are ready for a vacation, one day they want to go on a cruise and the next day, Disney.  It is so funny to hear their conversations on what type of vacation they want.  They have already bought their tickets for the 1 Direction concert in August now they are talking about a concert in February they want to go to.  They are so much fun to be around.  I think I would have been bored out of my mind without them.  I am so thankful for having two more daughters after the older 2 daughters.  4 wonderful girls and a wonderful husband.
God has truly bless our family.

Until next time remember that we all have a calling, trust God to show you where you need to be and walking in His ways!

May 1, 2013

It has been a long time since I found the time to sit and update my blog.  Since November, we had a wonderful Christmas, with all that went on at WOC, from the Christmas programs to Gift Wrap.  It seems like it has been non stop since Christmas, we have seen God do some might things within our family in the past 5 months.

We first started out the year with the new sermon series @World Outreach Church in Murfreesboro, TN, the Extraordinary Life through Christ.  We learned how God would take just ordinary people and make them Extra-ordinary.  Through that we heard the testimonies of many people, Angus Buchan, a potato farmer from South Africa that God changed his life and he is now holding "Mighty Men Conferences" all over the word to teach Christian Men to be devoted followers of Christ and lead their families, businesses and lives according to the Word of God.  Angus will be in Middle Tennessee on May 3, 2013 at MTSU to hold his first Mighty Men's Conference here in the US!  Hard to believe he choose Middle TN to come and share with the Men his Might Message.  Hold on to your seats ladies, if your husband's, son's and father's attend this meeting be ready for a change to take place within your home.  Angus was here last year and spoke at the church for a Men's Event and it was powerful!

Another Extraordinary life that God has changed and is using for His Glory is Raymond Berry, I have to be honest I did not know who Raymond Berry was until this study, just thought he was just another person that attended our church.  BUT, my husband Glenn knew who he was.  Glenn can remember when Raymond Berry played football for the Baltimore, Colts.  Hearing how God moved within Raymond Berry's life many years ago is encouraging.  He shared that there were things that came into his life that he did not sign up for but God chose to use him in the lives of may people.

For us to sit and listen to the lives God chose to use in His might plan it gave us hope that through Christ he could use our ordinary life.  I pray everyday that my steps are ordered by God and I will look at every encounter as a God Opportunity.  I want my life to edify God and give God the Glory for things that take place.

We also heard the testimony of  Charlie Daniels and how he had to study hard to learn how to play the guitar and fiddle.  He shared how he would get to the studio early and leave late so that he could practice to be the best he could be.  Through his determination God blessed him and he has to be one of the best Country Music Entertainers I know.  I have seen Charlie Daniels perform with his band and he brings some of the best entertainment to the stage I have ever seen.  But my favorite was the year he sang at Easter at MTSU for the World Outreach Church Easter Celebration...he sang with our Praise and Worship Team and it was so anointed.  He is not just an entertainer but he is also a man who can sing and enter us into the Presence of the Lord.  Every time I hear him sing I just have to smile and stand and worship with him.  He will also be at the Might Men's Conference at MTSU this weekend, what a time that will be.  Men I want all of you to have a blessed time in the Lord this Friday night.

There were many, many others who we heard about the ordinary lives that once they gave their hearts to the Lord became Extra-Ordinary Lives through Christ.  Just think about what he do with your life if you just let him.

I guess you can see where my passion lies, I want my ordinary life to become an Extra-Ordinary life for Christ.

Let's move on to the girls, Morgan, now 15 and Savannah, now 13 have been very busy.  Morgan and Savannah both help lead Praise and Worship for the Children's Ministry at our church.  Morgan works with the 2nd & 3rd graders on Saturday night leading worship for them.  Savannah also works with the 2nd & 3rd graders on Sunday morning leading worship for them.  God had blessed us with 4 beautiful daughters and they all love the Lord with all their hearts.  One day I hope to see all 4 girls serving the Lord in ministry at the same time.  Morgan plays guitar and keyboard for the worship team on Wednesday Nights at JV Infinity for the 7 & 8 grade and Savannah sings for the praise and worship team on Wednesday Nights.  Morgan has learned to run the Pro-Presenter (?) for Thursday nights H.S. Infinity, {I had to ask what that was when I first heard it, it is the big screen with the words to the songs, announcements and scriptures on it for everyone to follow along} she also plays guitar for H.S. when needed.  Morgan and Savannah have had several opportunities to perform in big Church and that has also been a huge God event in their lives since they both love praise and worship.

Glenn is still working at Publix, he is praying that things will change and I will go back to work and he will stay at home with the girls.  We will see because we have given that to the Lord to work out.  Praying for his will for our lives. Erin, our oldest and Luke her son are doing well.  Luke is now playing T-Ball and he had his first game the other week and he was so cute in his picture with his mom.  Heather, has been married for a year and her and her husband Eric is in the process of buying their first home.  Heather is learning to pray even more than ever before, lol, she is learning first hand how hard and frustrating it is when trying to buy a home.  Dylan our other grandson is doing well, he is in school and things seem to be going well for him.

Well, I think we are up to speed with things that are going on...hopefully I will be checking in before too long and I pray that God will use you to be that Extra-ordinary person for Him.
